What kind of buildings can we create when failure is a desired outcome? Pushing the boundaries of implementation, Anthropod was guided by a desire to experimentally test and then trespass the material limits of recycled polypropylene and zip ties in order to learn what is formally and spatially possible.
Testing variables such as length, porosity, quantity and configuration of joints, span, and more, we learned the structural potentials of the material. Armed with this knowledge, we bent, twisted, and fastened four sinusoidal strands to one another and the ground in order to create a hillside structure to serve the dual nocturnal functions of framing the night sky for stargazing and creating a space for intimate conversation between a pair.
Additionally, we worked with the constraints of a $0 budget, and the criteria that we had to intercept the recycling stream to source our materials and recycle the whole construct after evaluation.
